First semester is coming to a close, which means that ICARE, one of the most exciting and rewarding events of the school year, is just around the corner! This is the perfect opportunity for students to get out of the classroom and lend a helping hand to those in need. It is also the best time for us to not only bond with our friends, but also make new friends across different grade levels.
In order to promote unity within ICARE groups, this year, the ICARE council found new, creative ways to encourage companionship between our ICARE buddies. One such way was the introduction of the IBOND photo contest, where ICARE homerooms were told to take an awkward, “un-bonded” group photo as well as a fun, “bonded” one. IBOND gave students the perfect chance to get together as a group, sharing creative and fun ideas for the photo.
That said, although IBOND was a great opportunity to connect as a group, it is only the initiating step. How else could you continue to maintain and strengthen this bond during your ICARE? Consider these three fun and easy group activities that you can play at anytime with your ICARE peers to break an awkward vibe:
Two Truths and a Lie: Have each person make three statements about themselves: two true statement and one lie. The group has to try to detect which statement is a lie.
Heads up charades: An outrageously fun and exciting game where you get to dance, sing, act or sketch out a word for your peer to guess. This is a cheap application worth downloading before your ICARE trip on your Apple or Android device!
Mix and Meet (The M&Ms Game): Bring a few packs of M&Ms. Decide, as a group, which M&M color represents something you would like to find out about and share to your peers (for example, blue means you have to talk about your pet peeves). Pass the M&M bag around, so that everyone gets a chance to pick and share!
These are some of the plentiful fun activities that will make your ICARE experience more a “WeCARE” experience. Not only will your ICARE be rewarding to those you are helping, but you will also benefit from learning about one another.
