With its iconic red logo, TED has become a resource for many who are looking for a different perspective on the world and a deeper understanding of certain subjects.

TED is a non-profit organization that hosts conferences worldwide– inviting expert speakers from around the world to discuss any given topic at a time limit of 18 minutes or less. These conferences, commonly known as TED Talks, are visual presentations covering a variety of issues and perspectives that aim to challenge one’s beliefs and ideals. These topics are extremely diverse, ranging from discussions on American presidents to how one should properly tie a shoelace.

In harmony with the catchphrase ‘Ideas Worth Spreading,’ TED’s increasing popularity has helped democratize education for all. For ISM, it acts as a resource for curious minds wanting to broaden their knowledge on nearly any possible subject!

Tim Urban: Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator

With the multitude of assessments and performance tasks coming up, it can be a challenge to stay on task and manage one’s time efficiently. When our workload piles up, it is normal to put things off and distract ourselves with Youtube or social media. Luckily, blogger Tim Urban talks us through the process of procrastination in this hilarious 14-minute talk.


Susan Cain: The Power of Introverts

This video goes out to all the introverts out there. Writer Susan Cain brings a different perspective on introverted people, breaking the stereotype that a sociable and extroverted personality is the key to success. She argues that introverted types should be celebrated, rather than be pushed aside. So, for any introverts out there, don’t feel discouraged, but rather embrace who you are!


Daniel Leviten: How to Stay Calm When You Know You’ll Be Stressed

Being a student has its highs and lows. During stressful, nerve-racking experiences, how does one remain cool and collected? In this 12 minute presentation, neuroscientist Daniel Leviten gives us a strategy to handle this anxiety effectively. This is the perfect advice for any Bearcats in stressful situations such as tests or auditions.


Casey Neistat: Highschool Stories

In a quite lighthearted video compared to the others, filmmaker and Youtube influencer Casey Neistat talks about his time in high school and the lessons he’s learned through the process. It’s a very personal, advice-filled video that students can relate to!


Andy Puddicombe: All It Takes is 10 Mindful Minutes

This video is on the shorter side and is sure to capture your attention. Mindfulness expert Andy Puddicombe challenges everyone to take 10 minutes a day simply do nothing but be present with our surroundings as a form of de-stress to “refresh your mind”. This is the perfect opportunity to break away from one’s hectic schedule and calm one’s mind.

These are just a small portion of the countless videos TED uploads every day. TED Talks not only come in the form of lectures but also include performances by artists. It is a viral phenomenon that has brought together a community of passionate and motivated individuals which many in the Bearcat community can watch and take inspiration from!
