Battle of the Bands is one of the most awaited events of the year, combining music, food, and school spirit for a good cause.  This event brings together the entire school with elementary schoolers, middle schoolers, high schoolers, parents and teachers all coming to support the amazing talent we have at ISM. The 2019 BOB finals were held on February 9 and the event raised over one million pesos! It was an incredible night with some amazing performers who stole the show:

Meg B. was the winner in the soloist category and performed a truly outstanding performance  of Thank You For The Music by ABBA and If I Ain’t Got You by Alicia Keys.

Meg B. said she chose her two songs because “[she] was feeling very sentimental and really wanted to do something special for the people [she]loves, especially those who have supported [her] since freshman year, so If I Ain’t Got You by Alicia Keys felt like the perfect song to do that. [Her] second song was Thank You For the Music, which was originally [her] mom’s idea. [She] chose it because it’s one of [her] favorite songs”.

Having performed at BOB for 4 years, Meg B. is a veteran. She says, ”being onstage is definitely my favorite moment of BOB! I always get so nervous before a performance, but when the music comes on all the nerves go away and I just genuinely have a great time. There’s just something so exhilarating about singing that makes it so enjoyable, especially when I look down to the front of the stage and see all my family and friends. They keep me going!“.

The winner for the band category, Soup, got the entire crowd on their feet. Band member Xavier S. was the only freshman to perform at BOB Finals. When asked about the experience, he said, “Being the only freshman playing was slightly intimidating, having to represent our batch and all, but I think I did pretty well”.

He confessed that some challenges he had were “struggling with balancing school stuff and band practices, especially in the weeks leading up to prelims and finals.” His favorite moments of the experience were “whenever I played a guitar solo, that’s always fun.”

On that note, I’m sure many of us are already looking forward to next year’s  Battle of the Bands! If you want to listen to the songs performed at this event, here is the BOB Finals Spotify playlist:
