The Kardashian-Jenners are notorious for being caught up in celebrity scandals, constantly broadcasting their comments on social media, and showcasing their every move on reality TV shows. So it is no surprise when we hear, yet again, about Khloe Kardashian and her highly publicized relationship with hubby Tristan Thompson.
The couple were off to a rocky start last April 2018 when the NBA player was caught cheating with an Instagram model. This left Khloe angry and frustrated as they were just expecting their first child, True. More recent news reported Tristan having cheated on Khloe yet again, but this time with Jordyn Woods, Kylie Jenner’s (Khloe’s half sister) best friend. One can only imagine how Khloe felt at that point, having to deal with a very uncomfortable situation involving a woman so close to a member of her family.
It was just a month ago when it was reported that Tristan was allegedly fooling around with Jordyn Woods. Woods responded to the situation on a Facebook TV show called “Red Talk Table” in which she spoke about the incident. She stated how she “shouldn’t have been there [Thompson’s house] in the first place”. Khloe (and the whole KarJenner fam!) had been initially very mad at Jordyn, accusing her of lying. Khloe went on to say how she blames Woods for having been “the reason why her whole family broke up”.
Now, that Jordyn’s given her take on the situation publicly, where is Tristan’s? Non-existent. According to one of Khloe’s recent tweets, she describes how “he has been addressing this situation privately”. However, she does mention that Tristan “is equally to blame but he is the father of my daughter”. So does that mean that everything he is doing doesn’t make him a potential reason for the whole family being broken up? Well, the next day Khloe had a change of heart and tweeted this: “I’m a rollercoaster of emotions & have said things I shouldn’t have. Honestly, Tristan cheating on me & humiliating me, wasn’t such a shock as the first time.” She continues on with a follow up tweet expressing how “Jordyn is not to be blamed for the breakup of my family. This was Tristan’s fault.”
With both sides of the story now told and Khloe’s initial and now most recent responses to the situation pointed out, why was the jump to blaming Jordyn so quick? Why wasn’t anyone really accusing Tristan? This can most likely be explained by our perception of gender inequalities within our society. Woods, being best friends with one of the most famous celebrities, put herself out there as expected by society to maintain a certain appearance or personality. As mentioned earlier, celebrities’ every move is being watched and criticized. It just seems that society leans more towards keeping a close eye on what women do — their seductive styles, their revealing fashions, their catty ways. Who could possibly blame the ignorant male who seems completely detached from the brewing tension?
All in all, Khloe’s situation shines a light on our own circumstances. Our personal perceptions and ideas may change according to societal expectations and influences. It is typically thought that women are the ones that provoke situations such as extramarital affairs, when in reality a man could share the responsibility of being involved in these secret rendezvous. Men usually get away with these types of situations, unharmed. Society, in general, should reconsider all factors. Just because the majority says one thing does not mean that we all have to agree with it. It is about time that women stand up for what we believe is right, no matter the situation. Think before saying or acting.
With this Kardashian-Woods-Thompson scandal ongoing, what you do you think about how this situation is being handled? Is it even about gender expectations? Maybe it’s a simple display of the level of commitment and love that a man has towards his wife, which looks glaringly low to me.
