Lizzo Teaches The Importance of Self-Love

If you don’t know who Lizzo is, you might as well be living under a rock. The artist is quickly becoming one of the biggest names in music this year. Her jams have been on repeat on social media, radio, and television. Although this introduction is long overdue, it might be time for you to get acquainted. 

Lizzo is an American singer, songwriter, rapper, and actress who has gained massive popularity through her fresh and vibrant single, “Truth Hurts”. The song has gained an enormous cult following, as evident through its second week in the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and its astronomical view count of more than 100 million on Youtube. Her fan base, dubbed “Lizzbians”, continue to exponentially grow in size amidst the countless posts and tweets dedicated to reposting Lizzo’s videos, lyrics, and spectacular performances.

What makes Lizzo so popular? Lizzo has torn down so many people’s standards and expectations of how a singer in the industry should look. Her quirkiness and undeniable talent has allowed her to become such an influential celebrity in today’s generation. 

The American singer radiates an empowering and positive energy that quickly draws people towards her. Bops like “Juice”, “Truth Hurts”, and “Boys” evoke strong messages of confidence and self-love through their lyrics. Her hit single “Juice” has become synonymous with empowerment anthems. The songs starts off with Lizzo singing “Mirror, mirror on the wall, don’t say it ’cause I know I’m cute.”  Such meaningful lyrics combined with her phenomenal voice makes “Juice” such a huge hit. Furthermore, Lizzo continues to highlight similar messages of self-love through her hit single, “Truth Hurts”. These songs definitely express the best of Lizzo’s personality and truly deserves its praise with its confident and catchy tunes. 

Although Lizzo’s songs emphasize messages of body-positivity and confidence, her persona is equally exuberant and distinct. She is never afraid to show her curves and exhibit her stunning beauty to the audience. By doing so, Lizzo teaches her growing audience the importance of optimism and self-love in their lives. When interviewed, an anonymous junior states that “I think Lizzo’s fame is great because she teaches us [teens] a message of positivity and self-confidence in our lives.” 

From twerking onstage to casually slaying a flute solo, Lizzo has shown her audience the importance of loving yourself for who you are: a lesson that many teens are still struggling with.
