Last weekend, ISM’s very own Varsity basketball team competed in the annual Hardeman Cup, a competition comprising of basketball teams located across the city of Manila. This year, the prestigious Hardeman Cup competition was held at Faith Academy, and ISM competed alongside Faith, the hosts of the competition, INC, and the Our Lady of Peace school. Our Bearcats made quick work of their opponents, in preparation for IASAS.
Kabir M, a newly inducted member of ISM’s varsity basketball team, competed in Faith last weekend, and expressed pride in his performance in the competition. “We have a really tightly knit pack this year,” he remarked. In addition to his feelings of pride, Kabir expressed excitement at the time as the team was preparing for the upcoming IASAS, citing his team’s successes in the Hardeman Cup, “everything seems to click together, especially in time for IASAS,” he said enthusiastically, “the Hardeman Cup allows us to practice in that tournament aspect, as well as the pressures that come with it.” Furthermore, Kabir continued to display his eagerness to perform at the upcoming Basketball IASAS, “our team has a really good catalogue of players, and I believe we have a really good chance of winning the gold in IASAS this year.”
Like Kabir, another sophomore, Hatim S. displayed similar bouts of enthusiasm in his performance in the Hardeman Cup. Unlike Kabir, Hatim competed with ISM’s Junior-Varsity team, he viewed his performance in the competition as a good preparation. “Competing in a JV team allows you to build that experience that you could potentially use to make it to varsity,” he commented, “and from there, you can eventually improve and reach a level where you can make it into IASAS.” Hatim continued to talk about the cup’s role in preparation, “it also gives varsity teams a chance to pick their players for next year, and time to experiment with different combinations and lineups.”
With these successes in mind, there is no doubt that ISM’s gold in basketball was well deserved this year. Don’t forget to forget to congratulate your fellow Bearcats for participating in IASAS!
