Why are you applying for council?

In the year that I have been on the ISSBA council, I believe that I have helped contribute to the ISM community, and as a result, wish to serve it in an even greater capacity. Furthermore, I believe that with the responsibility of the task as the Public Relations Officer this year, I have grown as an individual to be more mature, have been encouraged to act as a role model and have learned how to effectively communicate with the student body. These experiences have helped form my high school identity and left a huge impact on me personally, making me want to do more. Overall, I have absolutely loved every minute of giving back to the community that shaped me. I believe that I can serve the ISM community, hearing what they have to say and doing my best to make it a reality.

Describe your leadership style.

I always try to listen to and engage all in some way or another, while being transparent. I furthermore try to have foresight and vision in making decisions. I always try to get the opinion of the group or populous, but when it is necessary, I will make judgment calls, be decisive and speak up. I also aim to lead with responsibility as a role model and integrity in mind: if a mistake under the council is made, I will admit to it and try to fix it to the best of my ability. Moreover, I am a highly committed person who aims to lead with passion. I always try to push through with plans we have committed to, so long as they benefit the ISM community. Most importantly, I will try to represent the ISM populous to the best of my abilities and make decisions that would best benefit it.

Why should students vote for you?

My passion for ISM holds no bounds. As stated above, I absolutely have loved being on ISSBA this school year and would be honored to serve the ISM community once again. I believe my qualities as a leader show that I can serve as a leader to the prospective ISSBA group. I believe my other strengths include my commitment and determination when tackling an issue. I believe this determination pushes me to accomplish tasks on time, and with quality. Moreover, I have always tried to promote communication. This urges me to collaborate with others to make informed decisions. I am also able to push my personal opinions aside to maintain objectivity and professionalism in working on ISSBA. In this, I endeavor to make fair decisions which give what the community wants and is benefits by. Furthermore, I always strive to be easy for anyone to talk to by making myself available for conversation. More than anything else, however, is that I truly love working on ISSBA. I cannot guarantee that I will not make any mistakes, but what I can promise is that I will do my absolute best to serve the student body and will listen and learn along the way. It has been an awesome experience, and I would be honored to serve on ISSBA again :).

Why are you applying for council?

I have been a part of the Bearcat community since ECLC. I have seen the school develop and grow from plain concrete to a vibrant community full of engaging, intellectually stimulating people. Recently, I have come to realize that the past 11 years of my life has been amazing because of the ISM community and I wish to return the favor, as it is my final year as a student in this brilliant school. I may be sentimental, but the past 3 years as a high school student, in particular, helped me grow an inordinate amount, as not only a student, but also a leader. With that growth, I feel that I can help the High School, as a whole, become an environment in which everyone can flourish.

Describe your leadership style.

The term leadership, to me, is misleading in the sense that many people mistake the term for delegation, allocation, or even control. I think that being a leader is not just about controlling others and getting people to do what you want to be done, but it is more about inspiring others. I feel that a good leader is one that helps and supports others in realizing what they need to do, one that creates a common goal within a group. I think I exemplify this through leading by example. I do so by taking the initiative, taking risks, and encouraging others to be the best they can be, ultimately helping the group reach and achieve its common goal.

Why should students vote for you?

Having dealt with Tiger moms, a brutally honest brother, and half of the IB, I feel like there is no challenge too big nor too difficult to overcome. By understanding what people want, and by understanding what people enjoy and desire, I think that I am a valuable ISSBA candidate. I have the willingness to help others, the natural drive that motivates me to work towards the betterment of the ISM community as a whole.

Why are you applying for council?

I am applying for council because I think I would be good fit for the role, fulfilling the qualities required of a Vice President for ISSBA. Moreover, I have always had interest in holding leadership positions and have held them before. The reason for my interest lies in the fact that from a position of leadership I can look towards helping others to a greater extent than I could when I did not hold the position – something which I both enjoy and look forward to. We undertake service to contribute to the community outside the school, but it should be just as important to contribute to each other inside the school as well. Being in council will allow me to do exactly that, but with a greater and stronger effect.

Describe your leadership style.

My leadership style revolves around maintaining a close relationship with those I ‘lead’. At bare minimum I try to know everyone’s name, allowing me to greet them properly every time I see them, whether it be in the hallway or in the cafeteria.
However the most important thing is to help others from a position of having greater power to do so. I view leadership as holding a position not higher than those around me, but simply one where I must act as a role model, and make it one of my goals to guide others towards fulfilling their own respective goals. If I am put in a better position to help them from, there is absolutely no reason for me not to do so.
I have made mistakes, and I have faced obstacles, but what good is my experience of dealing with them unless I help others cross the same ones? Leadership means holding a mutual respect between yourself and those you lead. Without it, it is no less than a dictatorship in my opinion.

Why should students vote for you?

Students should vote for me because I am goal-driven to the extent that I will work my heart out for their benefit. They should vote for me because I am ready to be both dedicated and committed to the cause of helping them, and making life easier for them over the course of the next academic year. As a whole, they should vote for me because I will stand as a viable and great option to have as a Vice President of their ISSBA council.

Why are you applying for council?

“Go Big or Go Home” was this year’s sophomore Battle of the Bearcats slogan. This slogan perfectly represents what I aim to do – take risks. In the past two years that I’ve been in high school, I have always looked up to those in ISSBA because of their positive influence on the entire school. I want to have the same impact on those around me and to the student body, by being reliable and making a difference. After experiencing leadership in two different councils including this year’s Bearcat Council and last year’s Freshman Council, I believe I am ready to take on the role as an ISSBA representative and meet the high standards set by the previous council.

Describe your leadership style.

Rather than serving as the face of the council, my leadership style focuses more on the behind the scenes work, such as ensuring that everything is thought out and well planned. I see myself having great potential as an ISSBA secretary as I efficiently take notes, ensuring that ISSBA does not forget what needs to be mentioned during entire high school assemblies, and effectively help make important decisions by participating in these discussions. I find that it is easier for me to get things done as soon as possible, allowing me time to make any necessary changes prior to the deadline. I believe I’m a very good communicator both within a council and outside of a council. Moreover, I am able to be a leader when needed (in the case a president/vice president is not present and someone has to take charge of council at any given time) and I’m willing to be a follower and take orders from my advisor and the council to carry out tasks effectively.

Why should students vote for you?

Although this is my first time applying for ISSBA, I have plenty of experience, as I was the Secretary of Bearcat Council this year, and was in my batch’s freshman council. Although I have made mistakes in the past, I have grown from them to improve my skills as both a council member and communicator. Throughout the years, I have learned and experienced what a good council member is. After being in different councils, I know that cooperation and combined effort is essential to accomplish a task. Communication is essential to ensure that we are doing everything properly. Although ISSBA has a demanding workload, I will be able to handle this because of my passion for leadership that I have developed within the past two years. I am very motivated to do an amazing job for next year and to guarantee I will do my job efficiently and do not let my council or the student body down. I will be a good ISSBA representative because I am willing to listen to all suggestions from the student body and ensure each person has a voice.

Why are you applying for council?

I am applying for council, because someone once asked me if I wanted to be a follower, or a leader. I thought that sometimes it’s okay to be a follower and go with everyone else, but then I realized that a leader is someone who ALWAYS steps up. I want to be a person who stepped up, especially for my grade and all the upperclassmen who’ve helped me. I want to be someone who gives back to my school and supports all my classmates and upperclassmen. I want to be someone who can be there for anybody.

Describe your leadership style.

I think my leadership style is bold. Sometimes I might have crazy ideas and just go with it. Sometimes those ideas won’t be amazing, but sometimes they can be a lot of fun. I know that sometimes they might be hard to achieve, but I also know that I’ll be willing to try if I know that people will like it. So i guess what I mean is that if I know people want it, then I’ll be willing to do anything, and will have confidence to achieve it.

Why should students vote for you?

Students should vote for me because I’m spontaneous. I’m taking a risk here, but being risky can create unimaginable outcomes. Being risky is memorable and I’m sure we all want our 4 years of high school to be memorable. People say freshmen shouldn’t be in ISSBA because “we don’t know what high school is.” We probably don’t have the most experience or knowledge, but the less we know, the more we want to. Maybe by not knowing what it is yet, we have more power to change it.

Why are you applying for council?

While I might have only been in ISM for the past 4 years, I acknowledge that I owe the school incredible experiences in terms of quality education, worthwhile friendships and opportunities. I feel that ISM has paved way for me to develop substantially and because of that, I believe that I am now capable of giving back to the student body by doing what is required of me should I be voted in council as treasurer. Additionally, I honestly feel that in light of the pool of candidates for this year’s ISSBA council, I should be able to make work with the rest of the ISSBA council towards making considerably desired changes and improvements for the school year of 2014 to 2015.

Describe your leadership style.

Having been in a few leadership positions during the course of my junior year, my leadership style has developed to become collaborative, engaging and supportive. Should I be nominated as part of council, this would be applicable in the sense that I would be willing and in fact, excited to be working with the rest of the officers and advisors. I would also work towards being an engaging leader by doing my best to include and continually engage the rest of the student body in the school’s activities and events. And finally, I also hope to be supportive of students hoping to express their opinions, contribute to the school and perhaps even excel in relevant fields. Should I be granted the position of treasurer, I would not only limit myself to sufficiently meeting the needs required of my position but I would also attempt to be a collaborative, engaging and supportive kind of leader.

Why should students vote for you?

In plain truth, I believe that students should be voting for me only because they wanted to. That being said, however, I do hope that – should they be voting for me – it should also be because they entrust me with the responsibility of carrying out the tasks required of me in addition to carrying them out well. Acknowledging that there would be numerous difficulties and substantial expectations associated with the position of treasurer on the ISSBA council, I cannot promise that there wouldn’t be problems if I get voted in. What I can promise, however, is that whatever these problems are, I will work tirelessly towards solving them alongside the rest of the ISSBA council. Students should vote for me not because of the promises I can make but because of the promises I will keep.

Why are you applying for council?

Every year, ISM runs smoothly and one of the main reasons of this is because of ISSBA. Now in my 3rd year at being in ISM and second in High School, I feel like I have not done anything to benefit the ISM community and I would like to change that. I want to be active in the community and make the ISM community a better place and make 2014-2015 a better school year. I would also like to interface with the admissions to help run the school and be someone my peers and colleagues can rely on.

Describe your leadership style.

There are people who want to lead by force and these people often times make irrational demands. That is not how I like to lead. I like to lead by example and not just by words. When I say something I do it and not just make false claims. For example if I tell people to come to an event. I will also be there to be supporting that event and helping any way possible to make the event successful. I don’t just I also don’t want people to look at me like I am part of ISSBA but just a peer of theirs that they can talk to when they need information regarding school events. That is the kind of leader I am. Someone that cares about going to the events but someone who is comfortable enough for students to talk to.

Why should students vote for you?

Students should vote for me because I am confident, responsible and friendly. A student should vote for me because I am friendly, I can talk to any student in the grade and I am responsible enough to admit to my mistakes and stick to my word. I am also confident and love speaking publicly which is the position I am running for. A student should vote for me because I am ISM’s perfect PRO.

Why are you applying for council?

I’ve honestly been so thankful for the experiences that ISM has offered to me. Being a new student in this school was so easy, because the ISM community is one of the kindest, opening and welcoming communities. For four years, I’ve always been taking in what ISM has to offer, as opposed to being a part of anything. The school has been great to me, from exceptionally talented students to great teachers and staff providing me with the best schooling experience with great activities and events. I felt that as an incoming senior, I should give back to the wonderful community that has been great to me, and hopefully give the great experience I had and better to the incoming batches of students in the high school.

Describe your leadership style.

I feel that being able to listen and staying organized are the most important thing. I believe that staying open to ideas and keeping them in mind are a qualities that I can contribute to ISSBA. I also believe honesty is one of the most important things as a leader. I feel for one’s fellow council members and admin to trust you is a large part of what ISSBA does, and I feel I can step up when it comes to being a trustworthy member of the council. If elected, I wish to hear everyone out, and be fully committed to serving the student body as best as I can being a supportive and approachable leader.

Why should students vote for you?

People should vote for me because I believe that I can help improve their experience in school. I hope that students will see me as a trustworthy, hardworking and charismatic individual who is willing to do some great things for the good of the entire high school. It’s been a really great three years in high school for me. I want to communicate to students of all kinds how great of an experience they can have as well, and I want to be a part of making that better for students, so they can have the best memories of some difficult, valuable and truly rewarding years of their lives.

Why are you applying for council?

I’m applying for ISSBA PRO because I’d like to help be a voice for the council itself as well as all students. I am generically fond of public relations and am running as I would love to represent the student body through ISSBA. My goal is to deliver an additional voice in order to take action on ideas introduced by our students. For example, new ideas for fundraisers enabling the school, clubs or councils to assist in developing the school itself, service partners or contribute in disaster relief funds. Such student input is necessary for any activity as they would most likely only consider participating in them if there is something which appeals to them and their peers. Thus, I am keen on completing this task.

Describe your leadership style.

I believe my style is composed of the old and the new world. It would be a mix of a democratic and the authoritative style. The democratic leader would make the final decisions, however, would ensure there is team member input in decision making process as it is vital. However, this style would not be desirable for emergency decisions which is a flaw, thus, in situation like this, all members could potentially not deliver input to their maximum potential. In addition, to ensure new beneficial future decisions, the authoritative style would be ideal for quick changes in circumstances. A mission would be supported by enthusiasm and a clear direction for team members to create a common goal.

Why should students vote for you?

It is very rare for a freshmen to run or be elected for ISSBA. Thus, if I were to be elected, I believe that I would be one of the few sophomore links to the ISSBA council. This may allow me to give ISSBA a distinctive underclassman perspective to make it wholistic. To make it more wholistic, making it aware of various views from different parts of the high school not usually represented on the council. Secondly, I believe I will be able to complete the task of clearly presenting ideas/announcements/statements to all audiences concisely in order to ensure it is comprehended. This is vital as when such important information is announced, it is not just be heard then forgotten the next second.
